Well, not so extreme, but like, just being more open about your interest without being afraid to be teased about it. Not necessarily hitting people over the head with it.

Best let him be teased of he goes about lifestyling. It is his fault for making himself out as his Fetish.

Well darn.
Sounds like you're in quite a pickle. Still, I suspect in due time it'll just amount to another thing your family will mess with you and bug you about. Really sucks man, though hopefully that's all it'll amount to. I'm sorry your parents are so strict and that your family is so bothersome. Must suck. Keep treking though, and hopefully things will get better.
Naturally, like always, I'm not allowed to view this picture. :/

EDIT: Searched link on Google. Its not porn. Why am I not allowed to view that again?

I asked my mom if I could be on the furry episode of Dr.Phil and then she told me I wasn't a furry.
That's the extent of me telling my family about furries.

The artist marked it as Mature.

For what reason though I'm not sure.

The artist is in Singapore according to the profile. Their censorship standards are prudish even by American conservatives' standards.

Boobs.

OP, I think that if you had not been so secretive then maybe it wouldn’t seem so weird for everyone else when they found out. I don’t hide the fandoms I’m in from anyone.

Singapore is weird.
Featureless breasts are far from something 18+.
Oh well. Different standards I guess.

This is somewhat true. If you yourself admit to something, then others can't find out themselves and make it worse for you. You have more control that way. Plus if it had already been known that you liked artwork of animal people, no one would think anything of it, I suspect. Though not keeping it a secret is not equal to "coming out" so to speak. Just don't act like you have anything to hide, OP.

Your family sounds dumb, no offense. All the joking on the internet aside, if anyone has serious problems with someone being a furry then they need to rethink what matters.

I bought a Board of Censors-certified copy of the Tenchi Muyo OVA series in Singapore back in Y2K. They censored out virtually all of the episode with anthropomorphic Ryo-Ohki because of unclothed yet featureless breasts.

Pretty much this.

If you must say you thought you had something to hide, tell them it's kind of like your parents worrying about what their parents thought of MTV and rock music back in the mid '80s: obviously no big deal to anyone who knew what it was, but seen as a great big deal by parents who obviously didn't.

Harbinger

The Last of Us.
The fact that harbinger hadn't responed to the thread yet worries me a little

No im just terribly shit and responding to my own threads, they end up getting bigger and bigger before i have time to catch up whilst im going "i'll read it all later, maybe tomorrow, maybe later...", too may people to individually reply to :p

Quick update though, it ended up not as bad as it could have been. My sister wouldnt shut up the entirety of that night, but she only said one comment the next day and that was it. Parents didnt find out in the end. I just laid low for a while, didnt go on my laptop or didnt talk about animals for a while which was hard -_-
Im still worried my sister thinks that shit she was thinking and just not saying anything.

But thanks for all the replies everyone, still reading through this thread. Yeah i think that picture is pretty awesome and some anthro's can be attractive, but i dont feel anything other than Steve Irwin style appreciation towards actual animals, i view anthro's and animals as seperate interests. Around animals im not thinking of anthro's and looking at anthro's im not thinking of animals.

One, tell your sister to stay out of your business or you will skin her. "Its hard to be a little narc when you 'aint got no lips!"
Two, just tell your parents. "Hey I really dig animal people, they're neat like anime and shit. If you think I'm going to rape the cat then something is wrong on your end and you don't even know your own kid." Pet the cat like fifty times and get on with your day. The one thing that will shut everyone up and respect any life choice you make is confidence, don't try to hide from it if its in the open otherwise as a social construct the human mind will interpret the issue as negative. Not saying wear furry on your sleeve but act like simply another aspect about yourself like how you may prefer denim jeans over slacks.

I guess I have the luxury of being able to tell people to fuck off. I don't care if anyone sees furry art on my PC, have a SL picture of my BF and I on my workstation and ipad, as well as my laptop. If furry art is on the screen, then I simply tell people to take it or leave it Their opinion has no merit. >:D

I simply don't bother talking about being a furry. Because honestly: what relevance does being a furry have in any situation, other than militarizing our silly fandom. The OP had the right approach by just keeping to yourself and if someone brings it up, then sure, talk about it. But damn... your sister is stupid. If she is that biased and close-minded, then tell her to fuck off. Sounds like she's harassing you and turning your parents against you lol.

I still have not revealed that I'm a furry to anyone I personally know so can't really comprehend/relate to what that situation feels like other than guessing the level of stress at the least. When I come to view animals and anthros I also classify them as separate interests like said Steve Irvin style interest towards animals.

Hooky

Was hermiting.
Is that what it can be like if they find out? Good thing i'm very careful when it comes to files on any computer. (I don't have a reason, it's just that I don't feel secure or like I would have the privacy on someone else's laptop.)

Sweetheartz22

Simply amazing.
The only people who really know I'm a furry include my closest friends and my husband. Kinda blurted it out to my friends after a night of drinking when one of my guy friends showing off his art profile which included a few fur artworks (he even accidentally showed off some of his 'yiffy' commisions, too). He ended up telling us he was part of the furry fandom, too, that same night. We ended up awkwardly trying to explain to our friends what a furry was the rest of the night. As for the hubby, I thought "might as well do it now or never". I really suck at keeping secrets and if I'm going to be with the same person the rest of my life, he might as well find out earlier in the marriage. He wasn't a fan at first when I told him, but after letting him get comfortable with the idea for a few months, and having him talk with a few of the awesome people on here, he's more open-minded about the fandom. Lucky me.
