Burn the Witch by Radiohead is their best single in a long time in my opinion. Sounding somewhere between Amnesiac and The Bends, but with a notable lack of any real guitar, the band returns to using sweeping string sections and hurried, claustrophobic songwriting to create a layered and lush song that fades out into a tension filled release. This is Radiohead doing what they do best, layering Thom York's operatic vocals and some dense, multi-layered songwriting with a gift for absolute melody. It can be difficult to understand exactly what Thom is actually saying but from a sonic perspective there's no reason why this song shouldn't become one of Radiohead's triumphs.
