What does being a pet/owner mean to you?

Personally, as I think I've mentioned on a couple of threads, I'm not a pet nor owner of anyone. I *was* wondering though if anyone on here /is/. Matter of fact is that I'm curious to know what everyone's opinions are.

What does it mean to you?

Is your relationship just a really close friendship or is your pet/owner your significant other?

I know that on basic terms for some, the pet/owner take care of each other, sometimes get gifts for each other, go out for random dinners and everything and usually the owner and their pet is something of a lifetime bond. Like all those creepy ponytail fxcking situation deals in Avatar... except way less creepy. *shudders* But regardless, if you have a pet, what's your story? How did you meet? What eventually brought you to ask if they could be your pet? Do you think females are more often than not the pet in the relationship? Do you guys both wear collars to show you're together or just the pet? (As probably mentioned or talked a bit about on my other thread related to wearing collars/tails/ears in public)

If you guys ever had to move, would you break the pet/owner relationship and move on to find someone else?

Answer away!

I wish I knew but I've never had a pet :c

..........and then I read Hewge's comment

@Hewge: *facedesk* No, I'm not talking about the fetish. I should probably edit this... but no yiffing... cause yiffing is just gross. But to each his own...I don't see how having a pet/owner is a fetish. This isn't necessarily BDSM "master/slave" thing. It /can/ be, yes, but I think (even though the line is very, very thin) the pet/owner relationship doesn't immediately go into the BDSM department.
@Taralack: Yeah... there's a thin line but I am /not/ talking about the dark side of the pet/owner thing.

Well, when you own a pet, you have to go out of your way to ensure its health and happiness. You must always put the pet first because it's your responsibility. I think that this concept shou.d translate to the human pet idea, but it seems to have reserved. Should be called slave/master if you aren't being a butler to your pet. Then again, that's just my idea. I'm more literal about it than others.

See, that's what I think about whenever I mention the pet/owner thing. My best friend is a pet and her owner does everything in his power to make sure she's okay. I think I'd have to agree with your comment, except with the addition that the pet can give a little love back too.

Forgive me if this is a stupid question but what is the point of a nonsexual human pet/owner relationship? What do you get out of it?

@TheKingOfTheCats: It's not a stupid question. I know some pet/owner relationships involve sex, I just didn't include that because I knew I'd probably get flamed pretty hard for it. Personally, if my pet or owner wanted to include sex in the relationship and I trusted them, hell yeah I'd probably go for it. In a strictly non-sexual relationship, I'm not sure-- probably just the comfort of having someone there for me whenever I needed them to be. Like the relationship /can/ be sexual, but the relationship overall shouldn't be stuck in a dark corner of the sexual world in the first place, you know?

And here I was clicking on this thread because I thought I had the chance to talk all about how much I love my real cat.

Another day, I guess... =(

That derp from faf
Well if the relationship is non sexual I think its just another way of saying that the pet and owner are really good friends. I am wondering how the conversation would go down I mean dose someone say they want to be another 's pet or dose the other way around?

I've got tonnes of pets of all kinds, bit of a pet breeder, especially of the more exotic ones. I look after them throughout the - oh, wait, fuck...
If you're talking about that kind of pet then i think its fucking weird. I thought one of the aspects about wanting to be a furry was the wild and free kinda thing, not tied up and locked in a cage. Even as some bondage or whatever kind of thing its still freaky, your impersonating pets for fucks sake.

I could always start a real What Does Your Pet Mean To You thread. I've got nothing to add about this freakiness.

I think it is one of the stupidest things in the fandumb. I think it is pretty morally fucked up as well as being in theory unrealistic.

1st problem: the people behind it
You're some dude claiming ownership of another. This other person is supposed to worship you and think you're the bees knees in every regard. You can instill your will upon them. Yes, it's all voluntary but that doesn't mean the whole concept is a giant ego trip for the owner and a magnet for people with security issues.

2nd problem: the characters doing it
These anthropomorphic characters are people. They are as intelligent as people and 99% of the time live in stereotypical Western societies. So, why for one minute, would there be a bunch of citizens OWNING others? Do we as human beings own other human beings? Yeah I guess some do, and that's slavery and it's pretty shit. If an anthro character needs a pet then IDK, why not just do what Arthur/Goofy did and have a normal non-intelligent animal as a pet? If that's kind of weird because there is an anthro equivalent in this world then just invent a fantasy animal. For a fandom that prides itself on creativity most furry shit is pretty cliche and unimaginative.

It's always a fetish thing, it's always illogical, it's always cringy. My 2 cents.

The only thing I want to shoot you for is the misleading thread title ! !

I mean, I almost pulled a Taralack and talked about my cat.

Pretty sure pet/master fetishes exist outside of the furry fandom. :p

I've had relationships like that where it's clearly a partnered thing (e.g. bf/gf, bf/bf), where it's purely just in-character D/s scenes (the relationship was actually ruined because we started to become closer to each other, believe it or not), but my current situation is D/s friends with kinky benefits (no actual sex, we started off as friends and eventually realised we have a lot of in-common kinks) - Though we are friends, it is completely ignored during scenes.

@Hewge: Well I'm incredibly sorry Dx . I keep forgetting about people owning actual pets, I own a cat, dunno why I made the title as is ><.
@Lastdirewolf: Huh. Well everyone has their own interpretation of it I suppose.

I have a dachshund and a german shepherd. I love them both and they are adorable, until my dachshund is an asshole and jumps on my desk to steal my shit. We've bred my female shepherd with my mom's male a few times. Raising puppies is fun :D

....wait a minute :c

Really it is just a very loving non-traditional relationship with a tone of appeasement/praise and tender caring back and forth, for me it is an amazing thing where she does wonderful things for me, I praise her, care for her and whatnot... hard to describe the dynamic really, but it's lovely. She is a non-traditional girlfriend really.

Kink can be a factor, but largely does not have to be. I know of a few people who have master/pet relationships who are very vanilla. I am not one of those but hey, that's life.

EDIT: seeing this thread is transparently directed at me, why did you not just ask me?

Jesus, you people are freaking out over this thread like OP asked about babyfurs. This shit is tame in the fandom, come on now.

ANYWAYS, I do this, OP. Maaaaainly as a sex thing though. It's kinda funny, I'd definitely be the dominant partner in the actual logistics of the relationship, but I'm the sub/bottom/pet. :u
