What Has Been Your Experience as Someone Who Identifies as a Furry?

Hello! My name is Amber and while I'm not a furry myself I do have a lot of friends in the community and I am actually doing a qualitative study about this! What I'm doing is something called a photovoice project. People take pictures and caption them with an answer to the prompt that is given.

I was hoping some of you would be willing to participate and help me out!

Here are a few things to set your mind at ease
-I won't be using names or anything for the project but I do ask that you post your photos to this page https://www.facebook.com/Photovoice-Projects-535800076602665/ OR message them to me on here/post them on here.

-You can either message them to me on the page or post them right to the wall! It is whatever you are most comfortable with!

-This is a study for your community. My goal is to overall create a better understanding about the community so all of you are more readily accepted and can freely be yourselves without any worry of backlash.

-On the page is most of the information but if you have any extra questions feel free to ask me.

-Ignore the due date, I have moved it and not yet updated it

What I need:
-up to 5 photos (taken for this purpose, i'm not supposed to use old ones)
-a caption with the photo answering the question :What has been your experience as someone who identifies as a furry?
-An example could be that you take a picture of your fursona and you say "This is (insert name) and they are a part of who I am".
-Examples don't always have to be positive though. I want to know it all, the good and the bad. Don't feel pressured though!
-Post it to the wall of the page or message it through the page or on here even.
-I need these photos by April 20th

What the majority is:
Fursuiters (well the people that can make them or afford them)
people who think anthropomorphic animals are cool (animals that have human things. EG: talking. walking on two legs. etc)
People who are shy but wanna make friends
People who love art


What The minority is:
Yiffers (people who like the porn)


What furries Aren't:
People who say they arent furries arent furries, simple as that. being in a fandom is a choice.

People who love art makes sense, though.

The overwhelming amount of porn commissions speaks for itself: the people into it certainly aren't the minority.

This is a qualitative study that is trying to capture the individual experiences of those who participate so validity and reliability are irrelevant. This is also exploratory and I'm trying to give you a different space for all of your personal voices and experiences to be heard. Thank you for voicing any concerns though.

Literally OP is just asking for us to help her on some kind of college project. Ricky, you're being such an asshole about this. Ironically enough I have a few fox photos I plan on putting on her study due to it being my fursona. Although people like you in the fandom make me weary. It's not the people outside that don't understand, it's people like you that remind me of 4-chan /b/ lurkers that disgust me and make me feel negative about the community I'm a part of.

You say you don't want to use our names, and yet you want us to post on facebook, the site that bans our accounts for using things which 'might not be our real names.'

I doubt you'll get many responses if you only wish to use Facebook. Many of us do not use that site, so we have no way of accessing what is posted there nor posting anything in return. If you're going to post on FA, post all the information here and allow submissions here.

You can message her on facebook? OP said that above? You literally don't have to go public with your name, and if you plan on making a false account you can. Have you seen half the names of people that use that website? I literally got a friend request from some dude named "Nightwing" last week. What is sounds like is she is asking people that feel comfortable to use the medium she needs to use for her project. If you aren't comfortable, then don't???

That's okay, the feeling is mutual. I don't care much for people with no sense of humor :V

Anyway, I just put that there because I knew *someone* would flip out. Thank you for making it worth my time :3

Now, learn what a 'lurker' is so you can use the term properly next time, and go do it yourself for a while.

Not exactly a study then, is it?

Honestly, the material you receive from random people on the internet could be entirely fabricated. The photos submitted to you may not even belong to the people submitting them.

Perhaps you should change your art project's method. You could attend a convention, take the photos and interview people yourself. At least, this way, you would know your project wasn't just troll responses and your examiner would be able to see you'd taken some initiative and put some effort into the project, rather than appealing to the internet to send you content. :\

Honestly, that's a better approach in every respect.

As I just described in another post, internet forums tend to be an isolating bubble.

They hardly ever represent a whole.
