What the hell is a "Boat"?

CrazyLee

Biggest buttplug ever
So there's a furry convention coming up, a newer one. They were discussing the mascot of the con and they called it a "boat".

Of course, that gave me pause. A boat? They have a BOAT for a mascot?
And then I started wondering what kind of boat. A sailboat? A rowboat? A motorized catamaran party boat? A cruise liner? An oil tanker? A US navy aircraft carrier? A kayak?

I asked them about the nature of their mascot and they told me that boat = Bunny + goat, IE a furry hybrid.
When I noted to them that using the word "boat" might make them confuse their furry mascot for watercraft, I was told that the entire fandom uses the term "boat".

.....

.....

WHO THE FUCK USES THE TERM BOAT? IS THIS FANDOM FILLED WITH DUMBFUCKS?

The first thing ANYONE would think of when they hear "boat" is something that floats, not a bunny that made some mutant child with a hoofed animal.
How about gunny, or gabbit, or gare? Sounds better, right?

... fffffffurries.

Yes boat, remember to pet the screws

and boats need plenty of water

pass it off as someone failing to name a hybrid creatively

As far as I've seen, furries love to create names for hybrids and pretend others treat it as an "official name" so everyone know what they're talking about. The terms "wox", "folf", "dragolf" and a few others have now entered the common fandom "vocabulary" because these hybrids are so common, but when it's a fairly new hybrid, you can't claim people already understand what you're talikg about, especially with such a misleading name.
With that said, if I were there, I would have thought they were going to use that anthropomorphic little steamboat from that classic Disney toon as a mascot. That would have been fun.

Why wouldn't it be a buat? That's stupid. That's like calling a horse-zebra hybrid a Zoerse.

Y'see, normally when somebody has a hybrid species they'd type something like this: "Mine's a Wox (Which is a wolf fox hybrid)". But what I don't get is why they don't just call it a "Wolf-Fox" to begin with. I mean, what's the sense in shortening the name of it by a few letters if it requires you to also type it out and explain?
"Mine's a Wolf-Fox". There, much faster!

Sometimes it's just about annoying people by confusing them.
For example, I've seen someone who claimed he was a "box" and would get mad at people not knowing that "box" was a boar x fox hybrid.
Puns can be funny. But spending 2000$ on a fursuit that makes you a giant walking fluffy pun... just no.

Did the maker see the chance to make an actual pun and send him a load of cardboard at first before shipping the actual suit? xD

the portmanteau method of naming hybrids started with real-life creatures such as the liger (lion father, tiger mother) and tigon (tiger father, lion mother). There's also creatures like the zonkey (zebra/donkey)... but, then again, some hybrid creatures such as the mule have their own name rather than a mish-mash of horse and donkey/ass.

I feel like there is some kind of actual naming convention out there in science, but something like "boat" (bunny father, goat mother?) is ridiculously stupid. why would you think picking a portmanteau that is actually a real unrelated word is a good idea??

To feel special. Saying wolf-fox is just confirming to the plebs that you're just mixing the popular animals together; using wox, you can feel smug, superior and special. And angry, if you like.

If someone were seriously wanting to call them boats, hit them repeatedly over the head with an oar shouting 'who's the boat now, bitch?'. That'll enforce your superiority.

They should've used goar. That wouldn't confuse anyone at all. Nope.

Either way, there will be Furries gathered in the poopdeck. :v

For seriousness, if this convention isn't like those rock festivals on ships or at a beach then I would be rather cheated with their mascot idea. Not because of the dumbfuckery their species is, but because the mascot has nothing to do with anything! Unless it is an actual boat and had something to do with the sea, the convention mascot is poorly thought out.
