I've owned my Echo for fifteen years (bought brand new off the lot) and about 112,000 miles (so far), no eating oil, no leaking oil, purrs like the proverbial kitten with no squeaks or rattles. And no breakdowns. Can't beat that.

Heh... I do need rear shocks on mine, but, considering they're original... not disappointed. Fronts, for some reason, are still good, even though they handle engine weight. Go fig. Interesting factoid: A Toyota Echo's engine will go 92,000 miles on 30,000 mile plugs without any evident issues. How do I know? Guess... *

Woah... I pay less than $55 a month for full-coverage. No wonder you can't afford stuff. And yes, cute. But my interest is the tiny footprint, the four doors (when others in its class only have two), the "twirl in place" turning circle, the chain-driven TWIN cams, and the forty highway MPG. Oh, and the ten airbags (including the driver/passenger knee airbags I want) all in a very lightweight package. The "cute" is just a bonus.

Edit: So is the less than $13,000 price tag. My Echo cost $14,135 on the sticker.

yeah the UK isn't a friendly place for young drivers (didn't help that I got a 90s jap super car for my first car) and yeah understand that, practicality, cheap and safe

I'm just hoping I can work things out so I can afford at least this one new car before I retire. It would be fitting, since my first car happened to be a 1971 Chevy Vega.

Wait a sec. Are you paying $6000 monthly? No offense, but that car is not worth that much. And why is it missing airbags? I thought airbags were standard issue in 1990s cars.

no its 4000 pounds a year works out to about a deposit of 700 and 10 monthly payments of 340, but i did only pay 900 for the car because it was broken xD and the 300zx only had airbags after 1994, mine is a 1991 (older than me)

I'm a bit of gearhead myself, my dad has been a mechanic since before I was born so I've been around cars my whole life. I had worked in an autobody shop for about 3 years, got my level one autobody ticket. I eventually got out of it though because of all the harsh chemicals one is exposed to in that trade. I still like messing with cars as a hobby though. Auto Body/Mechanical and what not. My daily driver at the moment is a 83 VW Jetta Turbo Diesel which I am in the process of converting to have the capability to run on straight waste vegetable oil :p No fuel expenses for me in the near future hehe. My other project is a 82 BMW 320i turbo I've been working on for many years :)

I am a cheapskate gearhead so I currently own a shit-box 89 GMC S15... The first vehicle I have owned that I actually don't like. Probably because I miss my Comanche...

Also, borrowing a CBR600RR so that's fun!!!

that gmc looks cool xD probably because we hardly have any trucks in the uk, closest thing probably is a landrover defender

HOLY FUCK MAN, save some for the rest of us ;) if i ever come to Texas you gotta let me drive the mustang :p
Oh, you can come to Texas and beg all you want. I don't let anyone, ANYONE, outside of my family drive my classics. Might let you ride in it though. I saved each of those cars from the scrap yards or from rotting in a storage building somewhere, I'm a bit attached to them. I bought the Mustang for $3250 from the original owner.

I used to have an 89 GMC Jimmy S-15. That damn thing just would not die. I rebuilt the engine at about 150,000 miles the cylinders looked brand new. I drove it another 100k miles before I sold it. It was red with a red vinyl interior. I drove it for 10 years without A/C because everytime I fixed it something else would break.

I have 2 vehicles because ...yea

2001 Mazda Tribute 4x4 150,000 miles

1989 Chevrolet Celebrity 195,000 miles

And I have to say, after putting the money into them to have them repaired, they are running great!
