Who Was Your First Starter Pokémon?

Who could forget their first starter? The first Pokémon to aid you in your journey to become a Pokémon Master? Truly, an unforgettable moment, at least for me.

My first starter was Treecko, and I didn't give him a nickname until he evolved into a Sceptile, at which point I went to the name rather and nicknamed him Christmas. Because of the pine tree on his tail.

I'll never forget you, Christmas. All my Treecko will always be named after you, my friend, who was always my first choice in battle. You were the last one standing as I finally beat Steven and his Mega Metagross, you were truly my strongest Pokémon in Alpha Sapphire. Thank you for helping me start that unforgettable journey.

I was the perfect age when Pokémon red and blue made their debut. Little ten years old me went with Charmander. And since I was a dumb kid I beated the game with him only... Never built a team, never trained another 'mon in my first run.
But it has been the beginning of a love story. Pokémon made me seriously consider creature design as a job.

Twenty three years later, every single main game beaten, a region designed by myself, a custom pokedex drawn, a fangame in development, and I'm still hyped for the release of every new title.

Honey, you should see me in a crown.
I can't remember. It was either Charmander or Squirtle (on my big brother's copy of Pokémon blue.)

This was back in 1999. I'm old.

The only Pokemon game I had was Pokemon Crystal and I wasn't that good at it nor did I really know what I was doing or even care about type coverage. I'm kind of glad that I lost it and someone else probably has it because the only time I didn't faint a pokemon you only get one chance to catching was wen I used the master ball. I even accidently turned my starter into a HM slave. Even worse is that I got lucky enough to get a female starter and I ruined them with HMs. They were a todadile and I chose them because of the anime

I don't actually own any official Pokemon games. I have played Pokemon Uranium, though, which is this really neat nonprofit fangame I came across. In the beginning, the game quizzes you on your preferred battling style and will from there assign a starter, although the questions are color-coded if you really want to choose. I ended up with the fire starter (raptorch). Cute little buddy, but it's practically just a charmander with brown markings and armor.

If I did play an official game, I'd have to choose Ruby, and from there I'd pick mudkip. One of my favorite Pokemon of all time is marshtomp; such a derpy little guy, I love marshtomp with all my heart

Will accept free hugs and tummy rubs.
I think Squirtle was. Back when I was a kid, I thought Blastoise was the most badass Pokemon ever. Now adays, I have a softer spot for Venusaur, but back then, Blastoise was my guy.

Turtwig was mine, back when I was little and my friend Holly let me play Pokemon Diamond on her DS

We go all the way back to Pokémon yellow for me. It was the in-between game that most the gens got, just for the 1st gen. Was a bit more special than the others though as your starter is set in this one. Pikachu at that. So there you go. My first starter.

Cyndaquil, Pokémon Soul Silver. It was the first game I ever got (handed down to me by my cousin, who let me borrow his DS). To this day it has to be one of my favorite starters and I love the new variant that came out

Funny enough my first starter was Torchic. I picked her because I thought she was cuter than the rest. Blaziken was a fire final evo.

Well, I picked Bulbasaur in Red and Blue. In Pokemon Pearl, I went that Bulbasaur from Wish, Turtwig. You hear all the time that the plant-types are the poorest choice as a starter, but I never had any problem with them.

To be fair though, if I'd knew back then that charmanter evolves into Charizard, I would have chosen charmanter.

I was around 5-6ish years old when Yellow came out and so that year for my birthday I got all 3 (Red, Blue, Yellow). I started with Yellow because Pikachu, but I don’t count him as my FIRST starter yet

My FIRST outside of Yellow was Charmander. ❤️

Yeah, Yellow's Pikachu don't count cause you don't get a choice in the matter (same with Let's Go: Eevee and Let's Go: Pikachu).

Also Charmander objectively is the best gen 1 starter.
