Why do many furry artists try to appeal to one specific audience?

I notice that there are tons of furry artists (especially ones who makes tons of pinups and porn) who make art that appeals to one certain demographic: Straight/homophobic men. Although I'm a guy that prefers girls over guys, I think that making art that can appeal to both men and women would actually give you more fans. If all you're going to draw is just big breasted female characters then your art will be boring to watch. People like Arctic Sekai and Katsuke (although he mostly draws yaoi nowadays) make pretty damn sexy art, both with male and female characters. Their females have nice different shapes and their males have nice different builds. However, if people make both genders have only a specific body type then that would probably boring as well. Here's two males that have different body types yet are both nice to look at. 1 (NSFW) & 2.

Other body types that could add flavor would include femboys for males, and "fitness model" type forms for females, like having some muscle tone. People can draw what they like, but I think you'll have a wider variety of viewers if you draw other things than just overly proportioned female characters (like RedMageJacob).

Honestly I think some people make separate accounts for a specific genre to reel in commissions. I've thought about doing that with MLP shit. Bronies will buy anything.

The artist is part of that demographic they sell to, thus the artist will make art to appeal to himself and those like him.

Maybe it's where you are looking? You said it yourself, there are plenty of artists who draw other themes such as guy/guy (I don't think I'm qualified enough to say, but to me that does NOT seem homophobic really), but also a lot of artists who prefer to draw female pin-ups.

Maybe it's that, maybe people draw what they enjoy, and gain a following from that.

My guess is... that is what they like themselves and so their following consists of people that like the same. If they started putting out other stuff... it might not be as good (as the subject matter doesn't appeal to them) or they think it will make the people already watching them stop watching them, not thinking that they would be replaced by new people.

Personally, I try to mix up what I draw... m/m, m/f, f/f, stuff with hermaphrodite characters, different fetishes, etc. Even if I am not into it (like watersports) I am okay with drawing it because some people do like it. If it REALLY doesn't appeal to me (cub, scat) I just won't draw it.

That one specific audience may have more money than all the other groups in the fandom and it would make more sense to appeal to them. If, for instance, babyfurs happened to be more well-heeled than any other form of Furry, then an aspiring artist would have to put aside his personal distaste for babyfurs (or any other group) to make money.

My opinion goes to that you should only ever draw things you are Interested in drawing, unless it's art slave. I don't have a problem going about drawing diffrent body types or genders over my art. It's not gonna kill anyone. But what tends to be key in creating characters is using it to portray personality. Especially in animation.

Because pandering to an incessantly creepy, horny-niche = cash money. I mean if your a fan of gay, inflation My Little Pony scat porn, there's not too much fap material for that (as there shouldn't be), which means people are more likely to pay you to make more since you're the only one that makes what they need. Making them dependent on you like a drug dealer or something.

This is like the basis of like half of FA and DA.

Art isn't always just for the viewer or commissioner. Sometimes it's to just get an idea out of ones' head, a suggestion from a friend, or something they saw elsewhere and wanted to create something similar.

...I don't think people who like drawing saucy female characters are doing so in order to appeal to homophobes.
This fandom is so full of gay people that suggestions of systematic homophobia are...a bit unrealistic.
