Why Is There So Much Pokémon Porn [Rule 34]?

In the service of science, I have just taken a closer look at the current numbers on Rule 34. Here is an overview:

Pokémon - 303009

Pokémon (species) - 116073

Pikachu - 10219

Zebstrica - 1052

Hypno - 2555

Lucario - 15453

Ash - 1050

Dawn - 5401

Misty - 6907

May - 6782

Bea - 2487

Cynthia - 6001

Mallow - 1730

Serena - 2862

Sonia - 2698

Marnie - 2702

Rosa - 5756

Nate - 373

Hilda - 5653

Gloria - 2263

Victor - 597

Nessa / Kate - 2976

Akari / Lumia - 304

Irida / Perla - 33

What is very noticeable:

- the enormous number of pictures compared to other series

- the depictions of the sexual activities are 90% explicit (hardcore pornography)

- the age and gender of the characters in relation to the number of pictures

- Often it only takes a few hours (or minutes) after a new character is revealed before the first images appear

And all of this on just one page out of thousands! I also looked at Pixiv, the Japanese counterpart of DeviantArt, to see how many individual views poke porn arts gets. We are talking about up to several hundred thousand views per image.

Most Pokémon fans probably know that this is such a thing. It's clear that for some reason there is a great demand for such images. Why is Pokémon porn so high in demand? Why are the characters we love so limitlessly sexualized, to the point where they're fucking like mindless animals? Do you think it's amazing or rather tasteless? What was your first reaction upon finding this stuff?

I don't know. Also not sure if this sort of discussion is appropriate here. XD

It made me angry to know that a child couldn't even google pokemon without porn/softcore images popping up in their search. When I was still with my ex, I'd get anxiety and double check the tablet and make sure it was safe before they continued scrolling.

I don't understand why someone has to go 'wow this is cute, let's make XXX with it'. But a lot of people do it. Each with all their reasons, I'm sure.

"Often it only takes a few hours (or minutes) after a new character is revealed before the first images appear"

That could just be people going along with the trends. Producing what will get them more views. I'm sure a lot of people do this solely for those reasons.

The actual Pokemon themselves? Honestly it reeks of a "starter fursona" vibe.

Pikachu and Lucario, they're the franchise mascots of course they're going to get picked really often. Hypno.... I presume there's some creepy status there given the whole "hypnosis" thing, though I think the guy might have had a noteworthy creepypasta or two. Zebstrika, I have no clue.

The non-Pokemon characters? I could not even begin to answer that one for you, and I don't want to even think about it thank you very much. Yo, pink bird, where's the brain bleach?

"Select Your Partner" has funny moments, and may partly explain it, but I'm not a big fan of rule 34. If you plan on watching, do fetch the brain bleach! There's a big difference between adult OCs belonging to adults, and making NSFW content with mainstream characters. Rule 34 has too much of a "somebody's trying to ruin your childhood memories" vibe to it. Also, it's exploiting product familiarity. No thanks.

Lots of adults grew up with Pokemon, so I get where this comes from, but I agree that it needs to be kept away from kids. Hopefully, the technology will improve so that certain content can only be accessed by adults.

The sexualized or fetishized part of any fandom is inevitable and honestly if it's anthro versions of pokemon in those situations I'm really not alarmed. However from the list you provided what I'm most concerned about is basically every human character since the majority are CHILDREN canonically.

By inevitable, do you mean it's human nature? True, those characters are pretty young. And the situations they're finding themselves in are as vulgar and hardcore as it can get, so I don't think "the Rule" gives a damn. Even on YouTube, just look at the comments, once a new character is revealed, the comments are going crazy with the meme.

In all seriousness I think people are just attached to Pokémon as a medium and feel close to it, so it's easier to find an attraction and desire to see the characters in a more adult context since we're, we'll, adults. Plus the characters are cute and that makes them pleasing to the eye which equals more lewds. People see the characters as new toys to play with.

I dunno, man. I get why people would enjoy Pokemon, sure, but they're basically extra-smart dogs with magical powers, so Pokeporn makes me a little uneasy, personally. To each their own.

I suppose I'm just rather indifferent... I mean, whatever people like is their business. So long as people aren't being exposed to stuff that they'd find squicky -- which is a problem, but not the fault of the porn itself, just with the ways searches work and stuff.

I am curious as to what these numbers are being compared to, to say that there's a lot of Pokeporn.

People under 18 should be banned from general Internet access.
Thats not me being facetious. I literally, truly wish there was legislation forcing ISP's to disallow all minors from browsing the Internet outside of heavily restricted school and library settings and punish parents for violating it.

That would be so incredibly invasive to implement I can't see how it could possibly be worth doing.

Oh wait you meant the human characters
I don't know what is sexualized more, the Pokémon or the human trainers. Actually, I just looked. Both are limitlessly sexualized.

Digimon, Sonic, The Legend of Zelda, Metroid... The list goes on. Most pale in comparison.
if something is popular enough, virgins will fantasize about fucking it.
I think this is the case only if the thing that is popular also is attractive enough. Pokémon characters are known to be very attractive and cute.

Hm. I was surprised at first, but then I realised, none of thsoe franchises are as big as Pokemon. Even Sonic doesn't have as many characters -- if you count each Pokespecies as a "character" -- and it isn't as relentlessly pushed on the public as Pokemon.

Its the parents responsibility watch over their kids on what they do over the internet. I really don't think ISPS would waste their time trying to enforce something like that.
The least a ISP could do is make it easier for parents to do so..
