Why (nonsexually) are you attracted to the fandom?

Honestly the porn is just a bonus of being part of the furry community. I was a furry long before I knew that it had a name or that there were others like me. Up until I found the fandom I had only ever drawn one porn picture. The real attraction of the fandom is making friends who are like me. I spent a decade thinking I was alone in the world , and different from everyone else. Imagine my surprise when I found out there were thousands and thousands of others out there who were like me.

It's a 90% sexual thing for me. The remaining 10% is the fact that I'm trying to open up to discussing that side of my personality. I've kept it hidden for 18+ years so... opening up about it isn't an easy thing.

Well, there's the obvious one, I like anthropomorphic characters. And then, to be honest... I'm genuinely attracted to people who are furries. I realize that my online persona that I've been developing for years... It's essentially the same as a fursona, but not an anthro. I can see the furries; who they are, and this enormous community they've built... and I want to be a part of that. That's why I'm attracted to the fandom.

Well...I've always liked anthropomorphical art ever since I was younger, even before finding PrOn of some characters.
The people here are really nice too, and we share that common interest in animals and bipedal and humanlike animals. ^.=.^

The art and stories. That's about it.

Crush or be crushed.
Im the exact same way about Lynxs or bobcats. I have always felt this way kiknd of like i wasnt suppost to be a human after all.
*head explodes* THAT'S IT!! *hyperventilates*

Oogh... there's so many other people I want to quote but I don't have the patience... so I picked that one.

The more I hear, the more satisfied I am. It's REALLY cool, some of the ways you people have gotten involved in the fandom.

I've always been fascinated with anthropomorphic ever since I was a little kid. I used to draw them all the time in art class which drove the teacher nuts. I found the fandom several years ago and was amazed that there was a group of people that have the same interest. I love the art and the people. I've been hooked ever since.

Furry, brony, anon - for lulz
i approached the furry fandom during my mid-teens during a mild depression i guess - i certainly wasn't happy with my life... so i sought comfort in a concept that for the most part took all the nice things about humanity, put it in an often visually more pleasuring package, and sold the product as new.

its a nice distraction from an imperfect world

I guess what attracted me to it was something i saw on TMHT back when i was a child. There was an episode where April gets transformed into a Furry Cat after getting her DNA crossed with a cat.
Sadly, for the male gender, there was also a couple of episodes of Totally spies which had some Furry referance to them. I guess it stems back to cartoons i watched as a child.

It's got me so far into it that i'm currently working on a story called Anthros, It's about a scientist finding a cure for cancer but it has a side-effect of transforming all the users of the injection into anthro-beings.

Ok my reason is non sexually based.. but is based on sexuality.

When i 1st came out as Bi I thought I was 100% totaly alone, then going over the internet I stumbled upon some links to the fandom.,and found that I wasn't.

I made friends so quickly I decieded to stay

Long story short Furries accept people

My love of old animated movies and their colorful characters.

Not only that but people are boring and animals are rather plain themselves, but when you put it togather you get something unique and fun.

Thats why I like furry.

I'm going to echo what I said on another thread.

I'm attracted nonsexually because of the art, the stories, anthro TF art and even the roleplaying.

For the sexual aspect, I choose to go subtle rather than graphic.

Example-

Tasteful nudes- yes
Crazy graphic comic that would make Hugh Heffner suffer a heart attack? No

Now I'm not one to criticize the furry fandom about yiff art.

I just choose to look at or read choice stuff.

There was an episode of the cartoon Batman Forever that involved a scientist who had devised a way to mix animal traits and DNA in with human DNA, and was selling transformations for cosmetic purposes. Problem was the animal DNA was causing increased aggression and other aberrant behavior, and the scientist was batshit crazy and wanted to transform everyone so he could rule over them all.

Which episodes of Totally Spies do you mean? It was so long ago that I watched that show; I can't remember any episodes with furry references.

I just sodding love furries. Humans are so dull and boring. Nothing generally exciting or fantastic can ever really happen with us. That's why furries rock so hard--they're like...the song would be "Humans (Animal Remix)" by God. Just take your regular human and zazz it up a little. Not only this, but artistically, anthros can show a much wider range of emotions than humans can, between the ears and tail and the whiskers, wings and muzzles (if any). They're just damn cool. You can do anything you want as a cartoon animal.

As for the fandom, well...I've met the coolest people in existence through the furry fandom. It began with MySpace and moved on up to this, glorious FA, creating primarily to be used by furries. I'll admit, the fandom really makes me want to punch a baby at times. But I'm forgiving, and I know that it's only the minority that are completely insane in the brain.

...Mostly. ;-)

The main thing that attracts me to the fandom is fursuits, I've always loved costumes, there's just something exillerating(sp?) about wearing a costume, you get to be someone else while you're wearing it, and fursuits are the only costumes that let you be an animal, you can give them moving jaws and everything, it's like really being that character.

I also love the art, furries are alot easier to draw than humans, their features are bigger, you don't have to fiddle with getting one tiny line in exactly the right place, and for some reason drawing an animal's muzzle or snout or legs is just more fun than drawing a human.
