Why Popufur?

I did a quick search, so here's to hoping I don't replicate anything!

So, I've been wondering something. What makes a suiter "popufur?" I see names of suiters that people seem to know pretty automatically and I just wonder what makes them stand out from all the rest. Is their character just that unique? Their suit just that good? Or do they go to lots of cons? Get known because they are also artists or something? Example: FWA just happened here and a few of my fellow Atlanteans I follow on Tumblr were gushing over having met Telephone and how she is one of their favorite suiters. I looked her up and apparently she's "popufur" and a big deal? Why? I mean, her suit is awesome and all, but what sets her apart exactly from all the others?

Just curious as to what you guys think.

I hate you all
I think character design has nothing to do with it. it's just a matter of having many real life furry friends

I know exactly what happened with Telephone:

-Her suit looks great.
-It's also different enough from other ones to stand out a bit, good character design.

-She's a decent actor and has decent movement skills. (This is a really important part.)

-She uses birdcalls creatively, making a unique voice for her character.
-This allows some sort of verbal communication between her and her audience without her actually speaking. It's a brilliant idea, and well executed.

-She attended enough cons to gain some sort of reputation. (This is also important.)

She set an entirely new standard virtually overnight, and it still works. I really respect that.

I can respect that, and that's awesome.
I have no idea who that is tho, =>.<=

I guess I'm more into the artists area with drawings and paintings

its mainly to do with reputation. but also a unique character design or personality can help. Just look at Pumzie, she's so cute.

For artists I'd say it boils down to quality of art. Some artists also get a following by taking that skill and drawing porn on the side, or a lot of it. It kinda bums me out when I see really skilled artists whoring themselves out and drawing nothing but porno.

I understand that feeling, and i used to feel very similarly too.
When i got into the fandom, porn was like OMG No

But as time went on and I was exposed to more it wasn't so
shocking. Then as my feeble attempts at seeking commissions
failed I tried porn.

OMG sales, and that was way back before I'd say i was decent.
A lot of artists get frustrated as I do and did that the normal work
they spent countless hours on was ignored, while the stupid 30min
porn sketch out does all their submissions in faves and views.

When it comes between starving and drawing a dirty image for some
extra coin many artists including myself basically whore out our skills.
Is the basic boiled down point, hence the artist type art-whore in the
selections.

I've gotten to like drawing porn now but at a cost. My own depression
comes from it. Drawing stuff i can haven't had the pleasure of knowing in 15yrs
and going. It's like i've said many times.

Looking into a window at two lovers and wishing to god you were able to have
that again. It makes me weep at times, but that is my own mental demons to
deal with.

Oh no, fur puns. Fur puns make me want to destroy things.
RUN FUR YOUR LIFE!!

I guess what makes a popufur is cuteness/coolness of suit, actual charisma and art skillz. Without the natural charisma, art skill and suit awesomeness mean nothing.

*nods*

Pumzie is adorable.

She also goes to cons, is on Second Life, and commissions art of her character by popufur artists.

There is a guide to becoming popfur in the games section, I recommend checking it out.

I've only heard of one popufur here, and that's Telephone.

When I get a suit I'm gonna take popufur by force cuz that's just what the space lord do. Take control, command the public. Rule society.

What's the point of being "popufur"? Isn't Funky already popufur enough on these forums? Or does it take more than that?

If you buy an expensive suit of a fursona that is often found sexually attractive (a.k.a. canines in general mostly) and are not too bad looking out of suit and you are super friendly with everyone you meet and you let others take lots of pictures of you in suit, etcetcetcetcetc surprise you're popufur

but it doesn't matter, even the most skilled of us can only really know so many people, and if I had to pick I prefer monetary wealth to social wealth because there's less potential drama involved

What makes a suiter 'popufur?' I think there are people who are respected and known because of their character performance skills, and people who become known for some other skill that they combine with suiting, like dancing, playing music, or doing parkour.

Then, there are people who are well-known because of their suit---either because the suit is unique or neat, or because the suit has a strong online presence on Youtube and social media.

OR they're popfur because they're involved in porn. Not that I look at that, I just happen to know there are videos out there of guys fucking in fursuits.

As a fursuiter myself: NO.

Murring up your suit is basically social suicide and will get you shunned by all but the most perverted people in the community.

or doing parkour.

As somebody who's still working on his first partial, fursuit parkour makes me wince. I almost couldn't believe my eyes the first time I saw it. In full suits no less! Sure it's fun to watch, but there's way too much potential for damage IMO.

OR they're popfur because they're involved in porn. Not that I look at that, I just happen to know there are videos out there of guys fucking in fursuits.

I'll have to disagree with this one. Folks who are known to wear murrsuits in public are generally persona non grata in the community.

Well I'd like to say it this way. A popufur is someone who acts as the suit and knows it very well and knows how to make it appealing to others using there body as a median to act out there character through the suit, and that is what Telephone does so well and what many other do also but the thing that makes a her different from the others is that, yes while she is just as unique as ever other fur she is the most bold in how she acts that out and uses it.
